Joint review panels

A joint review panel can be established for large-scale projects. In the case of a nuclear power plant, a joint review panel will conduct the environmental assessment and consider the licence application to prepare a site of a proposed project - processes that run concurrently. No licence decision can however be made prior to the completion of an environmental assessment indicating that the project may proceed. The President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and the federal Minister of the Environment develop project-specific agreements to facilitate such joint reviews.
